How to use it

  1. Pick a glitter texture

    Gold, silver, pink, rainbow, blue, emerald or violet. Each preset also sets a font and a background that make the texture easy to read; you can change both afterwards.

  2. Type your word or name

    Short text looks best: one to three words. Choose a cursive font such as Pacifico, Great Vibes, Dancing Script, Lobster or Caveat, or a plain one, and set the size.

  3. Tune the sparkle

    Set the sparkle density from 1 to 5, add an outline in any colour, and either keep the solid background or tick Transparent background and choose a matte colour.

  4. Download your glitter GIF

    Press Download GIF. The 12-frame loop is encoded in your browser and saved straight away. The file size is estimated under the preview before you export.

Seven glitter textures, one sparkle engine

Every texture is a colour gradient clipped to the shape of your letters, with a layer of tiny speckles on top. Each speckle brightens and fades at its own point in a 12-frame cycle, and a few four-pointed stars flare up on larger letters. Gold, silver, pink, rainbow and blue are the classics. Emerald and violet are there for backgrounds where the usual five clash.

Sparkle density runs from 1 to 5. At 1 you get a handful of glints that look elegant on large script text. At 5 the letters are packed with speckles, which reads as heavy glitter at small sizes. Dark backgrounds make every texture glow; on a light background pick pink or violet and add a dark or white outline so the letters keep their edge.

Glitter text with a transparent background

Tick Transparent background and the glitter GIF is written with a real transparent colour, not a white box. Each frame is encoded as its own full image and cleared before the next one, so no sparkle from one frame stays behind in the next. That matters for glitter, where the highlights move from frame to frame.

GIF can only mark a pixel as fully transparent or fully opaque. Soft anti-aliased edges are therefore blended toward the matte colour you choose. Set the matte to the colour of the page where the GIF will sit, such as white for a white page or the dark grey of a dark theme, and the edge looks clean. Pick the wrong matte and you may see a faint halo.

Fonts that suit glitter text

Thick, round strokes carry glitter best, because more surface means more sparkle. Pacifico and Lobster are bold scripts that hold up at small sizes. Great Vibes and Dancing Script are thin and elegant, so use a large size and a lower density. Caveat looks hand-written. All of them are open-licence fonts bundled with the page and loaded when you pick them, not pulled from a third party.

Emoji are drawn with your device's emoji font, so a heart or a star next to the word keeps its own colours and does not turn into glitter. Add a line break to stack a word over a name; each line is filled with the same texture.

Sparkle or glitter?

Glitter fills the letters themselves with a coloured texture and covers it with tiny speckles that brighten and fade, plus a few stars inside the text block. The sparkle text generator on this site works the other way round: the letters stay one plain colour, and separate four-point or five-point stars twinkle over them and in a ring around them.

Pick glitter when you want the lettering to look like it is made of glitter, such as a gold or silver name. Pick sparkle when you want a clean letter colour with starlight around it, or when the stars should reach outside the letters. Glitter loops in 12 frames, about one second, and sparkle in 20 frames, 1.2 seconds.

How this tool works and its limits

What this glitter text generator does with your text, and where it stops.

  • Everything happens in your browser. Your text is not uploaded, no account is needed and no watermark is added.
  • Text is limited to 200 characters. The canvas can be up to 640 pixels wide and 640 pixels tall, within 307,200 pixels in total.
  • The glitter cycle is 12 frames at 8 hundredths of a second each, so a loop lasts about one second. Every GIF is capped at 150 frames and the estimate under the preview is usually within a quarter of the real size.
  • Transparent GIFs have on-off transparency only. Soft edges blend toward the matte colour you pick, and sparkle highlights with partial opacity are rounded to opaque or clear.
  • Thirteen bundled fonts, all under the SIL Open Font License, load on demand. Long text shrinks poorly, so use the size slider or add line breaks if the preview warns that the text does not fit.
  • Glitter files are larger than flat text GIFs because the sparkle changes in every frame. A 480 by 270 glitter GIF is typically 30 to 70 KB; large canvases and a density of 5 make it bigger.
  • Works in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. The sparkle pattern is the same on every export of the same settings.

What is the difference between this and a glitter GIF maker that adds sparkles to a photo?

This tool makes the lettering itself: your text filled with an animated glitter texture. It does not add sparkles to an existing photo. To put a glitter word on top of a picture, export a transparent GIF and place it in an editor.

Which fonts work best for glitter?
